Not a SaaS. That's the whole point.

There are cloud tools that transcribe and summarise your saves. They keep your content on their servers, want an account, and bill you every month.

reelMind is a program you run. Your Instagram session, your saved content and your API keys never leave your computer. There is no reelMind server, because there is no reelMind service — you buy the code once and it's yours.

Own your data

Plain Markdown, one file per reel, on your disk. Point REELMIND_SAVES_DIR at your Obsidian vault or the folder your local LLM indexes, and that's where it lands.

Offline knowledge base

kb.html is one self-contained file: full-text search, browse by collection and topic, and deduped directories of every book, tool and place across all your saves — each linked back to its reel.

No password, ever

Sync uses your own logged-in session cookies, from your own machine. You never type your Instagram password into this tool.

Survives deletion

Once a reel is enriched, the knowledge is yours. The post going away doesn't take it with it.

How it works

Sync. Pulls your saved posts into saves/<Collection>/*.md using your own session.
Enrich. Transcript (Instagram captions → local Whisper or Groq) plus one multimodal pass that reads the on-screen text and extracts the content, typed resources and topics.
Build. Generates kb.html. Open it in any browser. No server, no internet needed.

Read this before you buy

It's a command-line tool. Python 3.12+ and ffmpeg on Mac, Linux or Windows. No installer, no GUI, no mobile app.
You bring your own API key. OpenRouter (paid, pennies per run) or the Google AI Studio / Groq free tiers. Your key, your cents.
Instagram changes things. Its private endpoints are undocumented and shift occasionally, which can temporarily break syncing until I ship a fix. Your already-built knowledge base is never affected — it's Markdown and HTML on your disk.
Sold as-is, one time. No subscription, no support SLA, no promised update schedule. I patch breakage when it happens because I use this every day — but I won't pretend it's set-and-forget, and you have the source either way.
